I was hanging around a new friend of mine and happened to see a weekender on their wrist. I thought “what a simple yet classy watch.” I love the simple design and it has quite the charm. I’ve owned the watch for about two months now and love it as an everyday watch. The one small con as other reviews have stated is that it is quite loud when it ticks. I notice it at work when I am resting my chin on my arm on break. However I’ve also noticed it when I am in bed and its sitting on top of my dresser across the room! I just put it into my jewellery box and it’s muffled enough where it doesn’t bother me after that. Would buy again.

Nice watch that looks good. I do have some issues with it though. The face is busy, which I kinda expected but not to the extent that it is. That is on me, I saw the pictures. The blue face with white numbering looks nice but unless you are in a brightly lit room it is unreadable. The indiglo back light completely washes out the white numbers. The numbers become invisible with the backlight on. The 24 hour numbers are so small with out a magnifying glass they barely exist. I think a white face with black numbering would fix all of these complaints. This color combination while attractive is hard to read.

I drive trucks at night and have to fill out paperwork on a clipboard with times. Sometimes parking lots and loading docks aren’t lit up properly and are dim. I have a simpler one with a white face that is amazingly easy to read in all lighting conditions and the backlight works wonderfully. Amazingly easy to read. My current watch is beat up and I was hopping to replace it with this.

Only had this a few months but so far so good for the price. I see many here complain about it not being waterproof after swimming or showers. Well maybe read the description. It says water resistant not waterproof. You are not supposed to submerge this watch. As far as loud ticking, I can barely hear it unless it’s next to my ear so not sure how people say they can hear it from across the room. Maybe they just arnt used to these types of watches. I switched out the band for a nicer nato it looks nice.

I purchased the Chronograph Timex watch.

I bought this, because my fancy watch had a unique band, and after years the pins would come out and have to be pushed back in constantly else would rip clothing, scratch, etc. Then the clip wore, and when I went to buy another band found out the band is custom for that watch and no longer available. Perfectly good watch killed by a now irreplaceable band.

So I had to buy another watch. When I buy a watch, I like real numbers on the face (1,2,3…etc not dots/dashes nor Roman numerals). I like a light up face. I also like a watch with a Chronograph so when I cook burgers I can see my 6 min are up and time to flip and don’t have to have my phone. I’m also middle-aged and married, and like a watch that looks nice, but don’t need it to impress as the famous quote from the movie “Accountant 2″… “Our Dad was too cheap, look at this Rolex, know what he’d say about it?” Ben Affleck responds “He’d say it tells the same time as his watch”.

I’m very pleased with this watch, though I wish it came with instructions just a sticker on the back saying what each button does. In particular, my chronograph when reset one of the dials would reset to 3 (and I may have accidentally caused that when setting the time the first use). No instructions on how to adjust that… went online and saw a video and now all my chronograph hands reset to 0. Something to be aware you can adjust the chronograph. .The band appears to be generic and easily replaceable but also probably the weak point. The band may be “leather”, but it’s really thin and likely bonded leather (where they glue leather fibers together and is not strong and I could be wrong). The numbers are large and easy to read, I love the Indiglo feature, I can see the whole watch at night now.

In short, it’s nice looking, practical, with very useful features.

Surprises include: It lets you set the hour quickly so you don’t have to keep spinning the minute hand around, and around, and around. This is also how you set the date so it doesn’t take too long.

The Indiglo really is nice, and lights up the whole face.

The chronograph hands are adjustable if they don’t reset to 0, though you’ll need to find the video on how to do it as this watch comes with no instructions.

I think the band is bonded leather unfortunately. I’m thinking within a year I’m going to be buying a new band which is basically an added cosdt.

Przypomina to tykanie taniego zegara ściennego. Wielka szkoda.

I will start this review by saying that I have not worn a watch in about 12 years. I usually just check my phone for the time. I bought this watch because I was attending an Expo for work, and had customers going. I did not want to be rude and have my phone out constantly to check the time, so I figured a watch would be better.

I had the watch overnighted to ensure that I had it in time to adjust to wearing it before the expo. and after wearing it a few hours, I already forgot that I even had one on. it is very comfortable to wear. I do have the issue of being in between holes on the watch band when wearing it, so it is slightly too loose.

below is a breakdown of what I like and don’t like about this watch.

    LIKE:
I do like the look of the watch. The olive green strap is comfortable, and goes with most of the outfits I wear. The watch face is very appealing too, and there is a backlight for viewing the watch at night. It isn’t too heavy of a watch either. As I stated above, I forgot that I even had the watch on!

    DON”T:
so there are a few things that I don’t like about the watch. The first thing is how loud the ticking is. When you are wearing it, you really don’t notice it, but at night, when the watch is across the room even, you can hear it clearly. It isn’t loud enough to keep me awake, but it is audible. This watch also keeps time very well! I synced it up with my phone best I could, and am within less than a second! I do have a gripe about the seconds hand though. *see DON”T***

Second thing I don’t like, is that the nylon band started to fray in less than a week. I contacted Timex to see if they would send a replacement, and they said no, but I could buy a replacement for $12-16. So they were useless. I ended up just burning the edge that was fraying, and heating a paperclip to seal the inside of the holes on the band that were. It seems to be holding up fine that way.

Last thing I don’t like, is the seconds hand. The seconds hand is spot on, for the first 30 seconds. Once it has to go up the watch face when looking at it, the hand looks to be behind by half a second. It isn’t really off, and doesn’t seem to affect the accuracy. I think that this is just due to the weight of the hand having to go up rather than down…

The things that I don’t like are very minute. I have no regrets about buying this watch! It is a very nice watch for the price!
I am currently considering buying a leather band for it as well to mix things up.

Hope that this review was helpful!

Simple, clean look, easy to use with the durability and quality of a timex timepiece. Not an eye catching watch but a simple band. Over time the band will be worn and need replacing.

Indiglo feature is superb and helpful in dark. Good quality. The watch hands shown in the product images are white but in real they are silver but it looks nice, matches the outer case. Straps are also good. Some reviews say that they got extra straps but I did not. 38 mm field watches are not easy to find at this price.

I’ve had this watch for more than 5 years now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I got it as a weekend/outdoors counterpart to my Timex Easy Readers that I wore to the office for more than a decade (one for brown belts, one for black belts). During Covid and WFH, it’s even more literally my daily wearer. My Weekender has for years stood up to everything I’ve thrown at it, worked perfectly, and gotten me several compliments. It’s easy to read and has a subtle elegance. At 38mm–not too big, but not small either–the size is perfect to serve you in the outdoors and also augment a subtle style or aesthetic on a night out.

I don’t like to swim, much less dive. So all I look for in a watch, in terms of WR, is whether it can survive me getting caught in a summer shower, get dishwater splashed on it, or, worst case scenario, a quick splash in the pool or ocean. I haven’t swam in this watch, but I’ve certainly done the first 2 on those list with it. The case held up just fine, no fogging or worse, and wearing a fabric strap means it won’t get funky–and you can just throw it in the wash anyway.

Despite not swimming in it, I do “sport” in this watch otherwise–jogging, mountain biking, softball, etc. In all those situations, the watch was fine. No signs of slowing down, no cracks or scratches. The indiglo backlight flickers, but I have hardly used that since I was a teenager anyway. The quartz movement means you’ll never have to set the watch like a manual needs daily, and like an automatic or solar may require. I’ve never replaced the battery on my Weekender or had to reset the time because it was off.

After a day of sporting, you can toss the sweaty strap in the laundry and pick out a new one based on your outfit, all in a couple seconds. My Weekender was my introduction to NATO and other single-pass fabric straps, and they’re now my go-to daily watch set-up.

I’ve never replaced the battery and haven’t noticed any lost or gained time. I should mention that I don’t really adhere to the mentality that you need to measure how accurate a watch is over a year or more to judge its merits. This watch doesn’t have a date window, which would mean several more resets per year, but between traveling between time zones and DST, I have to reset the Weekender several times a year anyway.

I wouldn’t wear this watch with a dressy outfit, but for everything up to that point, it looks appropriate. I don’t like flashy watches or to walk into a room and have my timepiece be the first thing people notice, so this is perfect for me. You should never pick out a watch based on what you think watch snobs will think/say, but if you’re worried about it looking ‘cheap,’ I’ve only gotten compliments about the Weekender. Like many affordable product lines, there is a surprising fandom out there for this watch. At this price point, I don’t think anyone would regret buying it, and its versatility means it may become that go-to watch for when none of the rest make sense. And if it’s your only watch–good choice.

There was a problem with this watch — but spoiler alert — I was the problem, not the watch.

I bought two Weekenders, and both kept losing 5–10 minutes every couple of weeks. I was frustrated because they’re such attractive, simple watches with a perfectly sized 38 mm bezel. Eventually, I gave up and tried a cheaper knock-off.

When the same thing happened with the knock-off, I realized it had to be user error.

After a little troubleshooting, I figured it out: I wasn’t tightening the strap enough. When the watch slid around to the side of my wrist, the crown would get nudged and partially disengage, stopping and restarting the movement — which caused the time loss.

The fix was simple: wear the strap a bit tighter so the watch doesn’t swivel.

If you’re having the same issue, try snugging it up. These really are marvelous watches. I was relieved to discover it was user error, and I’ve had no problems since. As a bonus, the slightly snugger fit actually makes the watch easier to read anyway.

I got this watch with a black strap and ordered 3 extra nylon straps along with it (blue, green and brown). This watch is so versatile that this goes well with almost every outfit, especially with the extra belts.

You can use it with casual outfits, with sporty outfits, with classy outfits and also with suits. Pretty satisfied.

I would argue that this would be a nice, inexpensive watch to get for your first “dress-up” function–like a concert, let’s say–and you’re not gonna be around people who are seriously expecting you to wear expensive hardware. There’s something wrong with those people anyway. I have found a couple faults (which I’ll get into in a bit), but if you can live with those, this is a watch that just looks good with a suit.

I bought this watch mostly for the face, which is just classic, tasteful design, and the fact that you can change out the strap fairly easily (it’s interchangeable for a standard 20mm NATO strap). It has sort of a railroad watch look to it, very utilitarian and purposeful. It came in at just under $30 for me, hopefully a little less for you.

If you do a search for “Timex Weekender” you’ll see there are lots of other color variants in the watch body to play with as well; one has a gray face with white numerals, one is white with black numerals, some have red second-hands, some have blue ones. Some are polished chrome, others are buffed chrome, and one or two are an anthracite color.

The one you’re looking at here is polished chrome with a black face, white numerals, chrome hour and minute hands, and a red second-hand. All of the ones I’ve seen so far come with Indiglo, Timex’s patented electroluminescent backlighting system that’s been around since I was a kid. It lights up the whole face, leaving the numerals and hands in negative relief so you can read ’em in the dark.

My biggest complaint so far–and it’s a pretty minor thing–is the chrome minute and hour hands. They do catch the light sometimes, but more often than not they seem to “disappear” against the black watch face, and I find myself having to move my wrist around to tell the time. (UPDATE 2/14/16: see attached pic.) I suppose I could nudge the crown and activate the Indiglo if it was a big deal, but I have other watches that don’t seem to have this problem. I have a feeling the variants of this watch that have black hands are more legible. I can see why they did the chrome hands, because the case is shiny and chrome-plated as well. But I’m not gonna lie, if the hands were white, it would make the watch look a good bit more expensive. Just sayin’.

The other drawback is basically a Timex thing. This watch ticks very loudly. I’ve said this in a review of my other Timex watch: “You can hear it inside a moving vehicle with the radio on. If you wear this as a daily watch, you’ll get used to it. It’s the people around you (significant other, co-workers) who won’t. Do not leave this watch on when you go to bed. Just… trust me.” What I mean by that is, if there is any decent amount of ambient noise, that should drown it out, but if you’re in a somewhat quiet place, you (and anyone else within whispering distance) WILL hear it.

The strap that comes with this watch is sort of a rough-textured ballistic nylon, which looks fairly tough and should wear well, but it’s a little scratchy against the wrist at first. After about a month of wear it is fraying a bit at the end, but I think that looks good. It’s also a little bit long, so if you have small wrists there may be a bit hanging off the end. That’s ok… the “NATO look” prescribes that you wear the remainder of your strap tucked into the metal clasps. I have big enough wrists that this isn’t a problem. Again, if you get tired of it or need to change out for a different color, there’s a whole world of NATO straps available to play with.

So, here’s the deal: this is a genuine timepiece which isn’t pretending to be anything else. You could drop thirty bucks on something cheap and blingy that’s trying to ape a more expensive watch with complications that don’t even work. But if you want something with a timeless, classic, functional design, something that will go REALLY well with that new black suit you “had to buy for that thing”, this watch should be in your cart.

I bought this as a gift two years ago. It is a simple, yet a high quality and reliable watch. Perfect for both casual and more formal occasions. It isn’t too big, and it is very comfortable. It’s also very easy to read and has illumination. After two years the time is very accurate. I recommend this watch.
